Ministry of Education notifies safety assurance in judo classes.

Ministry of Education notifies safety assurance in judo classes. If preparation is insufficient, start of judo lessons may be postponed.

In April 2012 martial arts will become compulsory in junior high school physical education classes. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology notified governors and education committees of all prefectures to check the judo instruction system, responses to accidents and safety management of dojos, emphasizing that judo lessons should not start before necessary safety preparations are complete.
MEXT also provided a judo safety guide including the importance of fall to protect ones head and major skills on teaching throwing and it will be distributed to all schools.
Minister of Education Hirofumi Hirano said, “Lessons should not start before preparations are ready. A system must be constructed first.”
