A first year student of Kashima Junior High School in Takasago and member of the judo club, Yuya Oriji (12), collapsed after judo practice around 5:30 pm on June 24. He was taken to a hospital in the city but died about two hours later. He had no external injuries.
According to the investigation by Takasago Police and information from other students, Yuya and some members of the club were joking together after the training. When one of them pushed his back he fell down over another member. He turned pale. Since the teacher had already left the hall, the students went to tell him, and he then called 119.
Yuya looked tired during the judo practice. He said he was exhausted and was lying on the tatami mat for a while after the session.
The judo club had 40 members. Yuya joined when he entered the school. He was well-built and had never complained of poor physical condition.
