Female student dies after hitting head during judo practice; Yokohama

A female student and judo club member of Shioda Junior High School in Yokohama died after hitting her head during judo practice.
According to the City Educational Board and other people involved, she fell down and hit her head hard on the tatami mat when her opponent used a technique around 5:50 pm on June 4. A male teacher of the judo club (37) was standing nearby, teaching the members. The student was hospitalized in Kawasaki. She died from acute subdural hematoma on July 4.
She tentatively joined the club on April 11 and had about 100 hours of practice. Principal Homma said that they needed to check the safety of their sports clubs again and at the same time provide care to students who were in need.
