First year Junior High School Student dies from injury during judo practice; Fukuoka

Takehiro Uchida, a first year student of Kaho Junior High School, hit his head during after-school judo club practice on Aug.25 and died of acute subdural hematoma on Aug. 30 in a hospital in Iizuka city.
Takehiro was thrown with haraigoshi (hip sweep) during randori of the after-school judo club practice at the martial arts gym of Yamada city around 11:45 on Aug.25. He hit his head on the tatami mat and fell unconscious. He was taken to a hospital in Iizuka city by ambulance but died 5 days later.
Principal Ogata of the school said, “We regret that it happened during an educational activity. Safe instruction must be promoted to prevent it from happening again.”
