High school student dies during school judo class: Kamakura

In the gymnasium of Ofuna Technical High School, Mikio Kumada (17), a second year student, fell unconscious and collapsed during a judo class around 11:30 on Nov. 8. He was taken to hospital where his death was confirmed.
An investigation by Ofuna Police indicated that Mikio fell down when he and his opponent faced each other before randori (free sparring) started. The teacher and others gave artificial respiration but he did not recover consciousness. An autopsy determined that acute heart failure was the cause of death.
